During normal riding, especially in off-road conditions, water and dirt work their way between the wheel seal and the surface of the spacer. This creates a grinding effect, which gradually wears grooves into the spacer’s surface. Once these grooves are deep enough, the sealing surface fails—allowing contaminants into the bearing assembly.
