The Desert X's Ducati Testastretta 11° engine is a typical Ducati V2 in terms of design, which is also known as an L engine. This is because - unlike usual with transversely installed V-engines - the front cylinder is almost horizontal, while the rear cylinder is almost vertically upwards. This design has thermal advantages because it prevents the waste heat from the front cylinder from putting additional strain on the rear cylinder. The disadvantage is that the cylinder head with the valve cover of the front cylinder, under which the technically complex desmodromic valve control is located, protrudes unprotected between the engine guard and the radiator. This also applies to the spark plug and the ignition coil.

That's why protecting the cylinder head and valve cover is particularly important.

To protect the area from road dirt, spray, blown-up gravel, or other foreign objects, we have designed this cylinder and valve cover protection cover to fit precisely. The solid 4-point fastening, in conjunction with the dimensioning of the aluminum sheet and the horizontal folding, ensures high component rigidity and protective effect despite the low weight, which reduces the risk of substantial damage to the front cylinder even in the event of mechanical impact.

In terms of design, our protective cover ensures symmetry and a perfect appearance: it takes up the shape of the asymmetrically positioned intake manifold on the left in the direction of travel and continues it. The cover clears up the area that is limited by the radiator at the top and the engine guard at the bottom so that in addition to the protective effect, the design underlines the adventure look of the Desert X. The trapezoidal openings in the cover also contribute to this.

To ensure that everything appears as one piece, the aluminum cover is precisely cut out by laser. Both surrounding edges are then carefully rounded. The final finish is created by powder coating in RAL 9005 – deep black with a finely structured texture. The cover integrates perfectly.
